" This is a wonderful place for Brent to go twice a week for six hours. We’ve met friends that we can do things with which is a special bonus. It is especially helpful in the every day boredom of a closing world and gives a place to laugh, play games like cornhole, sing, arts and crafts, make treats like candy and slushies, and joke around with friends. The ladies who are in charge are the sweetest people! It is patterned like respite centers in the Netherlands to give families a break to do whatever they want or need but it is especially helpful to Brent to put friends and variety into his week.

Laila, Tara, and Genevieve have all the licensing needed from the Georgia State Health Department. They are looking for more families that they can help. If you would like respite once or twice a week I strongly recommend The Tulip Place. It is a true blessing for us! "

" The program is a “God Send” for us. David gets out of the house and feels some independence without constantly leaning on me and I get a chance to make personal appointments or have lunch with a friend or just go shopping alone and not have to feel hurried which I do if I have to take him with me. Laila and Tara provide a safe, loving, fun atmosphere where the Guys can hang out, enjoy various activities, games, painting, sports, music, some exercise, lunch. conversing etc.

He was skeptical the first week, enjoyed the second week and absolutely loved the third time - by then he felt he had made some new friends and I could tell when I picked him up that he felt a sense of worth. The mens group is totally a “Guy Thing” and I feel it is important for guys to have“ guy time.”

I am very grateful for this program. I think it will help me be a better care giver because now I know that two days a week I will have some time off and I can get “recharged.”

I feel very positive about Laila, Tara and Genevieve . They are kind, caring, cheerful, and make the “men’s club” attendee feel a sense of worth and importance. Maintaining dignity for these former successful business men is very important! "

"The Tulip Place has been a God send to my husband and me. We’ve been going for almost three years since it first started. My husband was bored and I was in a very deep funk. He goes three days a week and is always happy to go in and see his friends. The staff are superb with training and many years of experience in dementia care.

The activities change about every 15 to 30 minutes and are creative and fun. One of the kindest things they bring to our marriage are gifts for us as caregivers such as holiday and birthday gifts and cards. Those things are beyond the capability of my husband and now he brings me love letters that I cherish. It makes me cry just to think about it.

When my husband arrives everyone cheers which is a wonderful way to greet him. They are extremely skilled at diverting him so I can slip out the door.

There is a preschool next door and these cute three year olds come over and sing and interact which would make any senior adult thrilled.

Every year we get a full multipage assessment of how our member is doing cognitively, physically and socially. We talk about current challenges and continued successes and about how we as caregivers are doing. This is so helpful!

And birthdays! They have photos and mementos from the family. Family members come and celebrate sometimes from out of town. Always something yummy like cake, banners, and the day shared on Facebook. I have given the facebook page to my children and friends so they can check in and see what’s happening. That’s uplifting for them especially when they’re out of town.

Since we don’t get to church much I love that they have a “chaplain” who comes and does a lovely bible study. My husband loves that.

I finally found activities to do while he is away. My life had closed up so much that I had to work at establishing it again. Now I have found joy in my free time and can breathe again."
